What are Matrix's physical audio and control connections?
Rear panel connections
Female DB25 way (D-Sub) connectors for analogue audio interconnections. To simplify interconnection They follow the DB25 pin out adopted by Tascam, RME and many other manufacturers:
Device Sends 1-8 - Sends to the external outboard equipment for Matrix's Super Analogue Router
Device Sends 9-16
Device Returns 1-8 - Returns from the external outboard equipment for Matrix's Super Analogue Router
Device Returns 9-16
Line In 1-8 - Channel line inputs, typically fed from the outputs of external Mic Pres or line level instrument feeds

DAW Returns 1-8 - Workstation(s) returns

Channel Out 1-8 - Separate channel outputs with independent level control

Ext 1, 2 (L+R) - External stereo monitor inputs 1 and 2
Mon L/R, Artist Out - Stereo main monitor, mini monitor and Artist monitor outputs
Cue ST, Fx Out 1-4 - Cue stereo and Fx 1 to 4 line level outputs
Fx Returns 1-4 - Four line level stereo Fx return inputs
Rec, Mix, Cue Ins send - Insert point sends for the stereo Rec, Mix and Cue busses.
Rec, Mix, Cue Ins Rtn - Insert point returns for the stereo Rec, Mix and Cue busses.
Rec, Mix, Follow Mon Out - Rec and Mix bus outputs plus a clean line level stereo monitor output taken post the external source selector but pre the AFL inject and level control. Via the summing function of the monitor source selector, sources can be summed and recorded via the Follow Mon output.
Mini L - Male XLR - Analogue outputs for direct connection to your Mini Speaker amplifier
Mini R - Male XLR
AES IN - Female XLR - The AES IN or the SPDIF Optical input can be selected as an input to the monitor source selector
AES OUT - Male XLR - Can be fed from the REC bus, the MIX bus, or the Pre Monitor level signal
SPDIF IN - Optical Toslink - The AES IN or the SPDIF Optical input can be selected as an input to the monitor source selector
SPDIF OUT - Optical Toslink - Follows the output of the AES output
RJ45 Network TCP/IP connection - For integrating with your Workstation(s) using Midi over LAN as well as for connection to an external computer running the Matrix Studio Browser software for project management and configuration.
GPIO Female 9 way D Type connector - Not supported in the current version of software
USB Type B female connector - for interconnecting to your DAW for QWERTY based soft key keyboard codes
X-Rack/Diag - Female 9 way D Type connector - Primarily used for connecting X-Rack for Total Recall integration. Also doubles as a diagnostic port for SSL trained technicians.
SW1 - ¼" (6.35mm) Mono Jack socket - Footswitch Control 1 - Either plays or stops the DAW. Holding down SHIFT will abort a recording if in record, or initiate half-speed playback if stopped.
SW2 - ¼" (6.35mm) Mono Jack socket - Footswitch Control 2 - Is used to activate or deactivate Record mode. Holding CTRL while pressing the foot switch will cycle through record modes.
Both SW1 and SW2 foot switch controls are intended for hands-free access to essential transport functions.

iJack - 3.5mm stereo Jack socket - for easy connection of your mp3 player as a monitor source
Headphone - ¼" (6.35mm) stereo jack socket - Separate Engineer/Artist headphone output for flexible control room overdub monitoring
