MIDI communication between the console and DAW is via Ethernet using the ipMIDI app from nerds.de.
ipMIDI eliminates the need for a hardware MIDI interface and multiple MIDI cables.
ipMIDI provides up to 20 MIDI ports.
The same network is used by the console's Remote app.
Each console includes a license to run one copy of ipMIDI. Additional licenses can be obtained from nerds.de.
ipMIDI uses multicast UDP ports 21928 thru 21947.
As such it only supports local LAN operation. Simultaneous internet access over the Ethernet port used for ipMIDI is supported when SSL’s custom configured managed switch is used, or by simply placing the SSL device and DAW on the same LAN.
In addition, the managed switch allows multiple consoles to be connected to the same network as it blocks UDP transmissions to the wider network. This VLAN-enabled switch is available from our your local SSL office or distributor, part code 626794BG.
For reference, the remote app uses broadcast UDP port 50081 to communicate with the console.
