DAW control works with a direct connection to my SSL console. Why doesn’t it work when I connect through a router or switch on my network? The remote software connects, but the DAW does not.

Many modern routers and switches participate in Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP), in order to optimise performance in case of large amounts of multicast data being streamed across the network. The ipMIDI application communicates exclusively using multicast UDP packets. Currently, SSL consoles are unable to participate in IGMP and as such, are unable to signal to the router or switch that they wish to receive multicast traffic.
Currently there are three solutions:
1: Disable IGMP snooping on the ports of your router or switch to which the console and DAW computer are connected.
2: Set up a static multicast group containing the ports connected to your console and DAW computer to allow multicast with a destination address of 126.96.36.199 to pass between the ports.
3: Install a simple, unmanaged switch (or a smart switch that you have the ability and access rights to disable IGMP snooping on), connect the DAW computer and console to it, then connect the switch to the rest of your network.
