While all electro mechanical devices and components used in Solid State Logic analogue products are high quality parts, dust, dirt and heat are still a common enemy of all such parts.
The reliability and life of these parts will always vary to some degree with the installation environment and use of the product. Most switches and pots have self-cleaning and/or self-lubricating contacts which can obviously only clean and/or lubricate themselves when used.
Over time, if a switch or pot is not used, the ’open’ contacts will acquire a thin film of dust which will affect the operation of the switch or pot. This is more likely to happen after a prolonged period of inactivity.
Repeatedly turning the pot fully clockwise and counter-clockwise, or repeatedly pressing a switch, will generally improve the situation. If this does not restore correct function, the pot or switch may need to be replaced.
Solid State Logic does not recommend any particular brand of contact cleaner. Component manufacturers generally do not recommend such products, as using them may be detrimental to certain elements, e.g. by negatively affecting plastic elements over time.
