The standard size SSL Duality provides 48 analogue line inputs and 48 direct out analogue signals. SSL provide a unique range of products to interface this with Pro Tools.
The system would require 2 SSL Alpha Link MADI units and one SSL Delta Link unit.
Each Alpha Link unit will convert 24 channels of analogue I/O to and from the Duality.
Both Alpha Link units can then be connected via MADI to a SSL Delta Link unit. The Delta Link unit interfaces with Digidesign HD Core and Excel cards to give the user up to 64 channels of digital I/O from within Pro Tools. The Delta Link appears as 4 192 units on the Pro Tools menus.
The Delta Link can be set to a "special MADI mode" in which it will send the first 32 channels of I/O down one pair of MADI connectors to one Alpha Link, and the second 32 channels down a second pair of connectors to the second Alpha Link. All Delta Link options are available to change from within Pro Tools. Please refer to page 18 of the Delta Link manual for more details- click here for all available SSL manuals.
In this way Pro Tools channels 1-24 and 33-56 will be the Duality analogue inputs and direct outputs. By quick manipulation of the Pro Tools I/O page the sends / returns can appear as 1-48 within Pro Tools.
An added bonus to this is that MADI channels 25-32 will appear on one unit as digital I/O and MADI channels 57-64 will be on the second unit as digital I/O. This gives you 16 mono digital channels that interface with Pro Tools - perfect for external machines / processors. For this to work both analogue and digital should be routed to and from MADI on the Alpha Link front panel.
